Gap Travel Cambodia

Cambodia is becoming another popular destination for gap year students to include in their Asia gap travel itinerary. It has only recently been considered safe to travel to Cambodia. Up until just a few years ago there has been little infra-structure to support gap travellers and backpackers, such as hostels and transportation, but in the last decade Cambodia has become popular with gap travelers who are looking for something different.

Cambodia suffered greatly in the aftermath of the Vietnam War with the harsh rule of the Kymer Rouge. The country was extensively bombed during the war, and after two decades of violence followed by a vicious uncompromising government, the Cambodian people have finally emerged to enjoy a newly found freedom. Unlike Thailand and other very well traveled countries, you can still find off-the-beaten-track places that have seen few western tourists, and this is very attractive for adventurous gap year travel.
